George Russell and Valtteri Bottas were vying for position midway through the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, with the Williams driver still chasing his first F1 points with the Grove-based team.
But disaster struck when Russell went for an overtake on Lap 32 and the two cars collided, both hitting the barriers at high speed to leave debris scattered across the race track, bringing out the red flags for good measure.
But who was to blame for the collision? The drivers had some terse words to say to each other in the immediate aftermath of the crash, and didn't hold back after the race had finished either, with Mercedes Team Boss Toto Wolff also weighing in with his opinions of the incident.
