We’re back at the Red Bull Ring this weekend for the second round of the season – the Styrian Grand Prix – and it’s time to check the tyre selections as we return to the circuit for the second of two back-to-back races at the Austrian track.
This year heralds a change from 2019 as for the first eight races, at least, drivers will receive the same allocation of hard, medium and soft tyres for each race.
That means two sets of white-walled hard tyres, three sets of yellow medium tyres and eight sets of red soft tyres are available to each driver for the Styrian Grand Prix.
“With so many variables at the start of this delayed season, and a flexible calendar that doesn't leave much time to react to changing circumstances, it was agreed with the teams, the promoter and the FIA to announce the compound nominations for the first eight races this year all together,” explained Pirelli’s Head of F1 and Car Racing Mario Isola before the revised season began.
“As usual, these compounds have been chosen to best match the characteristics of the individual circuit and provide interesting opportunities for race strategy,” he continued.
