WATCH: Relive the fireworks at Marina Bay on F1’s last visit to Singapore
Formula 1 returns to Singapore this weekend, three years on from a dramatic encounter that saw Sebastian Vettel claim victory under the Marina Bay Street Circuit lights.
Vettel ran third to Ferrari team mate Charles Leclerc and the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton in the early stages, but his undercut tactics paid off handsomely as he jumped both in the pit lane.
From there, the four-time world champion controlled proceedings – including a late Safety Car period – to take the chequered flag ahead of Leclerc, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen beating Hamilton to the final podium spot.
It remains Vettel’s 53rd and most recent F1 race win as the German prepares to enter the final six-race stint of his career with Aston Martin, before retirement. It was also the last time F1 visited Singapore, with both the 2020 and 2021 races cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
