Mika Hakkinen racked up 20 Grand Prix wins at a host of circuits around the world during a trophy-filled F1 career, but up there at the sharp end of the list is his triumph in Monaco back in 1998 – and he’s told us all about it in a special, reflective interview.

Hakkinen and McLaren were on fire during the early stages of that season, with the Monte Carlo event marking his fourth win from the opening six races, results the Finn used as a springboard to claim a maiden F1 world title over Ferrari rival Michael Schumacher.

But it was not just on Monaco race day that Hakkinen excelled; displaying rapid pace throughout the weekend, he recorded a rare and coveted ‘grand chelem’, which includes securing pole, the race win, the fastest lap and leading every tour from start to finish.

Now, Hakkinen has taken time to reflect on the one and only victory he achieved in the Principality, where he lives to this day and enjoys his status as a two-time world champion, having done the championship double in 1999.
