Beneath grey skies at Imola, the 2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix roared into life – with Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz ending up in a gravel trap for a second consecutive race after contact with McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo, which brought out the Safety Car.
With all the drivers starting on intermediate tyres after pre-race rain, Ferrari’s mood would have been dampened even further, as Charles Leclerc was jumped by the Red Bull of Sergio Perez for P2, while McLaren'sLando Norris also passed the Monegasque to claim P3.

Meanwhile, George Russell leapt from P11 on the grid to P6 after a lightning start from the Mercedes man.
