Three drivers in action at Pirelli test in Hungary for development of 2027 tyres

Three drivers and teams have stayed on at the Hungaroring to take part in a Pirelli tyre test, with the programme focused on development of the 2027 compounds.

While many in the paddock have embarked on F1’s summer break in the days after the Hungarian Grand Prix, Franco Colapinto and Gabriel Bortoleto are two of those still on track for Alpine and Audi respectively for tyre testing.

Aston Martin, meanwhile, fielded third driver Jak Crawford on Tuesday – before running Honda’s new-specification power unit during a filming day on Wednesday – as the three drivers completed a series of screening runs on various C3 tyre options.

This was followed by long runs, allowing for the performance and degradation characteristics of the most promising to be assessed.

Additionally, Colapinto and Bortoleto evaluated several C4 and C5 compound variants, doing so through Qualifying simulations and higher-mileage stints.

Bortoleto recorded the highest lap count on Tuesday with a tally of 141, but his best time of 1m 20.813s was beaten by Colapinto via an effort of 1m 20.371s. The Argentinian amassed 128 laps, while Crawford recorded 136 laps and set a fastest time of 1m 24.598s.

Testing continues for Colapinto and Bortoleto today, with the pair again focused on a similar programme to Tuesday's running.
