TECH WEEKLY: The intriguing Mercedes upgrade that reinterprets an idea from 2022


Now that the triple hit of Austin/Mexico/Brazil has been completed, in the breathing space between that and the final triple header of the season we can look in a little more detail at one of the more intriguing upgrades used since Austin – that of the Mercedes front wing.
This was part of a general upgrade package which also incorporated the radiator inlet, floor edge wing and floor vanes. But in the detail of the Merc’s front wing endplate, we see a re-interpretation of an idea first tried by the team in 2022: that of using the space connecting the flaps and endplate to enhance the out-wash of the airflow, but this time with a much more intricate arrangement of channels and slots than that which was introduced at Miami ‘22.
