STRATEGY GUIDE: What are the tactical options for the Mexico City GP?

You might think a man with 104 pole positions would not be too excited about one more, but Lewis Hamilton – never one to hide his mood – was bouncing up and down with joy at the conclusion of Qualifying yesterday, much like he did 20 seasons ago, when bagging his first.

No.105 has been a long time coming. His first for Ferrari, three years and a team change after his last for Mercedes.

The good news for Hamilton in his quest for victory is that practice suggested overtaking in Sunday's race is going to be very difficult. The bad news is that it’s an awfully long way to Turn 1, and he’s going to be towing a pack of highly motivated rivals all the way down to the braking point.

George Russell starts P2, with Charles Leclerc and Kimi Antonelli on the second row, while Max Verstappen and Lando Norris are on row three. They’re all winners this season, and while Antonelli has reason to be a little more circumspect, the others are here to add to their tally. The race is tantalisingly poised between one stop and two, which is going to make it very interesting indeed.
