There’s a perfect storm at Silverstone – but one would hope only in the purely metaphorical sense. The combination of circuit layout, track temperatures and wind conditions have presented us with a Grand Prix that is anyone’s for the taking.
The circuit suits Red Bull, and Max Verstappen has pole, while the Ferrari upgrade that looked good in Austria also looks great here. The lower temperatures that arrived yesterday have bought Mercedes to the party and, while the McLarens have looked slightly out-of-sorts all weekend, there's plenty to suggest that they’re still first among equals on race pace.
The gaps are being measured in hundredths rather than tenths this weekend and no-one’s sure which way it’s going to go. Will strategy make the difference?
