Oscar Piastri held the lead at the start of the Qatar Sprint from pole as George Russell and Lando Norris maintained positions behind.
Further back, both Yuki Tsunoda and Max Verstappen moved ahead of Fernando Alonso through the opening turns, the four-time World Champion then overtaking his Red Bull team mate to move up to P4 in the 19-lap affair and challenge Norris.
The rest of the opening lap remained clean, as the top-10 was completed by Alonso, Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes), Carlos Sainz (Williams), Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls) and the second Williams of Alex Albon.
