In the Sprint at Spa, the man starting second led Lap 1 and won the race. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri – the driver defeated by Max Verstappen on Saturday – will be hoping for a repeat as he lines up on the front row of the grid alongside polesitting McLaren team mate Lando Norris.
Out to disrupt the papaya battle when the lights extinguish will be our row-two starters, that’s the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc and the Red Bull of the aforementioned World Champion Verstappen. And behind them are Alex Albon, a superb fifth in the Williams, and the lead Mercedes of George Russell.
Yuki Tsunoda had a much happier Saturday than of late, with P7 for Red Bull, ahead of Racing Bulls stablemates Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson. Completing the top 10 for what’s set to be a race of changeable weather is Kick Sauber’s rapid rookie Gabriel Bortoleto.
Aiming for strong recovery drives from the pit lane after opting to change power unit elements on their cars will be Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton (originally a frustrated P16), Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli (qualified P18) and Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso (P19).
Also starting from the pit lane will be Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard had qualified 15th, but Williams have altered the set-up of his car in Parc Ferme.
