Felipe Massa and Novak Djokovic star in charity football match

Felipe Massa captained a team of Formula One racing drivers in the annual charity football match in Monaco on Tuesday evening, but was unable to prevent defeat by a 'Star XI' led by tennis world number one Novak Djokovic.

Sergio Perez, Carlos Sainz, Will Stevens and Roberto Merhi were among the other current drivers to be involved, while Mercedes and Ferrari's respective reserve drivers Pascal Wehrlein and Esteban Gutierrez and former F1 drivers like Giancarlo Fisichella also enjoyed a run-out in the Stade Louis II arena.

Other stars included Le Mans legend Tom Kristensen - a nine-time winner of the 24-hour endurance event - and former Arsenal and Chelsea defender William Gallas. But even with Gallas in their ranks the Formula One side slipped to a 3-0 deficit, before pulling one back in the second half to end the game 3-1 down.

The match has been running every year since its creation by Prince Albert II in 1993, with proceeds going to the 'A.S. Star Team for the children' foundation, which helps underprivileged children around the world.
