Leclerc reveals tribute helmet for Bianchi ahead of Japanese Grand Prix

Charles Leclerc will race with a special, Jules Bianchi-inspired helmet design at this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix to mark 10 years since the Frenchman’s accident at Suzuka.

Former Ferrari protégé and Marussia racer Bianchi passed away at the age of 25 in August 2015, several months on from injuries sustained in an accident during the 2014 race.

Bianchi and Leclerc’s families had a close relationship as the pair made their way to F1, with the Frenchman helping the Monegasque during his karting days and acting as his godfather.

“A special helmet in memory of a very special person for me,” wrote Leclerc on social media, alongside photos of his new design featuring Bianchi’s core colours and number 17 logo. “10 years this year since we have lost Jules here in Japan.

“So many memories together that I’ll never ever forget. I miss you and I’ll do everything to bring that helmet on the top step of the podium on Sunday.”
