IN NUMBERS: All the key statistics from Norris’ World Championship-winning season
As Lando Norris becomes the 35th driver to claim the F1 World Championship, we’ve been taking a look at the key numbers from his title-winning campaign.

Lando Norris has now etched his name into the F1 history books after claiming his maiden World Championship at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Briton taking the crown following a closely-fought title battle that went right down to the wire. An eventful season for Norris has also brought with it some fascinating statistics – and we’ve rounded up some of the key numbers below…
-- 0.698 --
The smallest winning margin in seconds of all of Norris’ victories, with this one occurring during his fifth triumph of the campaign in Hungary.
A one-stop strategy had helped Norris to get into the lead of Round 14 on the calendar, having lined up behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and the other McLaren of Oscar Piastri. However, a charging Piastri started to hunt Norris down during the latter stages, setting up a thrilling end to the race.
While he made a couple of attempts to overtake, Piastri ultimately could not find a way past his team mate – but crossed the line a mere 0.698s behind.

The number of points by which Norris took the Drivers’ Championship ahead of closest rival Max Verstappen.
After retaking the lead of the standings following the Mexico City Grand Prix, Norris further strengthened his advantage to 24 points over Piastri at the next round in Sao Paulo. Verstappen, meanwhile, was 49 points adrift at this stage.
However, a run of victories for the Dutchman – coupled with some trickier weekends for McLaren – saw him overtake Piastri for second following the penultimate round in Qatar, putting him only 12 points away from Norris for the finale. Another triumph for Verstappen in Abu Dhabi gave him a further 25 points – but Norris just clung on to win the title, ending the season only two points clear of the Red Bull man.
-- 6 --
Fastest laps achieved by Norris across the season.
A rule introduced in 2019 saw the driver that scored the fastest lap of the race awarded an additional point. While this was scrapped ahead of the 2025 campaign, setting the quickest time is still something of an accolade.
Norris racked up six fastest laps during his title-winning season, with his first coming during his victory at the first race of the championship in Australia while his last occurred at the Italian Grand Prix in September.

-- 7 --
Norris’ total number of wins – and pole positions – from the 24-race campaign.
Seven appears to be the magic number for both Norris and team mate Piastri in 2025; incredibly, each driver claimed seven race victories each, as well as both racking up the same number of poles.
While the majority of Piastri’s triumphs took place during the first half of the year, Norris’ were slightly more evenly spread, having stood on the top step of the podium in Australia (Round 1), Monaco (Round 8), Austria (Round 11), Great Britain (Round 12), Hungary (Round 14), Mexico (Round 20) and Sao Paulo (Round 21).
-- 8 --
The number of race weekends where Norris arrived as the championship leader.
As touched on above, Norris kicked off the season in style by winning the Australian Grand Prix, meaning that he took an early lead in the Drivers’ Championship standings. From there the Briton continued to head the table – until Piastri overtook him after Round 5 in Jeddah.
Despite the Australian remaining ahead of the pack for much of the campaign, a strong run for Norris saw the 26-year-old retake the P1 spot thanks to a dominant victory at Round 20 in Mexico – and the rest is history...
-- 13 --
How many times Norris beat Piastri in the intra-team heads-to-heads.
In terms of Qualifying trim for the season, Norris narrowly outscores his team mate by 13-11. As mentioned above, both drivers took seven pole positions – but Norris more frequently placed ahead across the campaign as a whole.
The race day head-to-head between the two looks very similar, with Norris again just edging it by 13-10 (not including the Las Vegas Grand Prix, in which both McLaren cars were disqualified for a technical infringement).
-- 17 --
Number of years since McLaren last had a Drivers’ Champion prior to Norris’ success.
When the papaya squad won the Teams’ Championship in 2024, it marked the end of a long wait to return to title glory, with their last triumph having occurred back in 1998. Their most recent Drivers’ title, meanwhile, had been won by Lewis Hamilton in 2008.
This year McLaren did the double, wrapping up the Teams’ crown early in Singapore before Norris brought home a long-awaited Drivers’ Championship at the finale, ending the 17-year dry spell since Hamilton’s success.

-- 18 --
The number of times that Norris stood on the podium in 2025.
Along with his aforementioned seven wins, the new World Champion also crossed the line in second on eight occasions, as well as taking third place three times – one of which being his crucial title-sealing result in Abu Dhabi.
With there being a total of 24 races on the calendar this year, this statistic means that only six of these ended with Norris finishing off the rostrum; two being a DNF (in Canada and the Netherlands), one a DSQ (in Las Vegas), while his other non-podium finishes were a P4 in Saudi Arabia, seventh place in Azerbaijan and another fourth at the penultimate event in Qatar.
-- 30.324 --
The largest winning margin in seconds from Norris’ season, achieved during his dominant victory in Mexico City.
Arriving into the weekend at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, the British driver had been without a P1 finish since the Hungarian Grand Prix almost three months earlier – but he soon boosted his chances of changing that statistic by grabbing a stunning pole position in Qualifying.
From thereon Norris raced to a lights-to-flag triumph, crossing the line with a whopping lead of 30.324s over Leclerc in second place.
-- 35 --
The number World Champion that Norris becomes in Formula 1 history.
Prior to the 2025 campaign, 34 drivers had achieved the dream of winning the title in the top echelon of motorsport; from the very first won by Giuseppe ‘Nino’ Farina in 1950, through to the four in a row scored by Verstappen between 2021 and 2024.
Norris’ win means that he becomes the 35th on the list of F1 World Champions – and he’ll doubtless be keen to add more than one championship victory next to his name in the future.
-- 423 --
Total number of points scored by Norris by the end of the season.
Entering into 2025, the highest number of points available to a driver stood at 648 – but to achieve this would require victory in all 24 races plus the six Sprints.
Norris ended the campaign with a final total of 423, meaning that he scored 65.3% of the points on offer.
