Luca Ghiotto finished the Formula 2 season as he started it – by winning the Sprint Race. The Italian’s fourth victory of the year secured him third in the drivers’ championship ahead of Feature Race winner Sergio Sette Camara, who finished third in this race.
Sandwiched between the two of them on the podium was 2020 Williams F1 driver Nicholas Latifi claimed second to become the F2 drivers’ standings runner-up.
There was a famous name on reverse pole, as Giuliano Alesi, son of former F1 race winner Jean, started from first. The Ferrari Academy Driver got away strongly and retained the lead, as Ghiotto burst ahead of Latifi for P2 when the lights went out.
Alesi’s strong start came at a cost. The Frenchman’s tyres couldn’t sustain his pace and he was eventually dragged into the pathway of Ghiotto, who sent it down the side, before Latifi followed the Italian through.
As on Saturday, it was Sette Camara who impressed the most. The in-form Brazilian started eighth on the reverse grid but fired his way through to third at the chequered flag for a double podium in Abu Dhabi. This secured the DAMS driver fourth in the standings, and with that, the necessary points for a Super Licence.
