FORMULA 2: Ghiotto pulls off defensive masterclass to win red-flagged race

Luca Ghiotto heaped further pressure on Nicholas Latifi in the Formula 2 drivers’ championship, moving to within 10 points of the Canadian in second place thanks to his third victory of the campaign in Sunday’s Sochi Sprint Race.
The race was interrupted by a nasty crash between Nikita Mazepin and Nobuharu Matsushita, which brought out a red flag and subsequently shortened it to 15 laps.
It has since been confirmed that both drivers are fine, although Matsushita will remain in hospital overnight for observation.
When racing resumed, Ghiotto was out in front, but it required a defensive masterclass, as Nyck de Vries was hounding the back of him and had the advantage of DRS.
The Italian managed to drag his car to the finish line ahead of the newly-crowned champion, who appeared happy to settle for a second podium in Round 11.
