Jack Aitken fought off the unrelenting Jordan King at Monza on Sunday to snatch his third victory of the Formula 2 campaign and move within two points of third-placed Luca Ghiotto in the Championship.
The British duo exchanged first and second three times during the Sprint Race, but the unwavering Campos driver eventually forced his way past the chequered flag first.
The duo’s back-and-forth threatened to boil over at times, particularly during their continued battles with the tricky first turn, which forced a number of drivers into retirement, including Callum Ilott, who was in the top three until the final lap.
Ilott’s retirement, and a late VSC infringement penalty for Nobuharu Matsushita, handed Nyck de Vries a second podium of the weekend. His P3 placing - and Championship rival Nicholas Latifi’s second pointless finish of the weekend - hands the Dutchman a 59-point lead in the standings, and the opportunity to wrap up the title in Sochi, next time out.
