FACTS AND STATS: Leclerc claims Ferrari's first pole of the season in Hungary amid most competitive Q3 in history
The best facts and stats from Qualifying at the Hungaroring for the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix.

In a magnificent end to Qualifying at the Hungaroring, Charles Leclerc claimed his first pole position of the 2025 season for Ferrari, beating both in-form McLaren drivers. It was a thrilling session with plenty of intriguing results, as Gabriel Bortoleto firmly took his spot in the top 10 while Lewis Hamilton exited in Q2. Here are all of the facts and stats you need from Qualifying in Hungary...
- The session produced the closest Q3 in Formula 1 history, with 0.543s separating the top 10 – this beats the 0.577s from Hungary in 2022 and Brazil in 2003.
- Leclerc took Ferrari's first pole of the year and the 27th in his career, passing Mika Hakkinen for the 11th highest number of all-time pole positions.
- He also ended his run of poor Qualifying performances in Hungary, where he has never started on the front row.
- This also marks Ferrari's first pole at the Hungaroring since Sebastian Vettel won from pole in 2017.
- For the third consecutive round, Oscar Piastri will start in P2, which is where he qualified last season and ultimately went on to win the race.
- In more good news for the Australian, he has claimed more victories from second on the grid (four) than from pole (three).
- This is the first time that Lando Norris has been outqualified by a team mate at the Hungaroring.
- George Russell took P4 for Mercedes, reaching Q3 at this circuit for just the second time in his career.
- In fifth, Fernando Alonso matched Aston Martin's best Qualifying of the season, indicating an impressive turnaround from last weekend in Belgium where they were the slowest cars in Qualifying.
- Lance Stroll also bagged his best Qualifying position of the year in P6.
- Similarly, Kick Sauber rookie Gabriel Bortoleto secured his best result over one lap of the year, taking P7.
- At the other end of the scale, Max Verstappen endured his worst Qualifying of 2025 for Red Bull, ending the session in eighth place.

- The Dutchman has won from 10 different grid positions throughout his career, but never from P8.
- Both Racing Bulls made it to Q3, marking Isack Hadjar's eighth appearance in the final segment this season. However, he was outqualified by his team mate Liam Lawson for the third time.
- Ollie Bearman will start from P11, which is where he has crossed the line in the last four consecutive races.
- Lewis Hamilton was knocked out in Q2, failing to reach Q3 at the Hungaroring for the first time on pure pace (he previously suffered a mechanical failure in Q1 in 2014).
- Carlos Sainz took P13, meaning that Williams have not started in the top 10 in Hungary since 2016.
- Franco Colapinto was 14th, outqualifying his Alpine team mate Pierre Gasly for only the second time in 2025.
- Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli could only manage P15 after his final flying lap in Q2 was deleted – he also failed to progress to Q3 last time out in Belgium.
- Yuki Tsunoda was 16th as he experienced his fourth Q1 elimination in the last eight races.
- He was only 0.163s adrift of the lead Red Bull in Q1.
- The margins were remarkably small, with Tsunoda just 0.688s away from the Q1 benchmark.

- Taking 17th on the grid, Gasly suffered his third Q1 elimination of the last four Hungarian Grands Prix.
- With Bearman outqualifying Esteban Ocon, the Haas team mates are now tied 7-7 in their season head-to-head.
- Nico Hulkenberg was 19th, equalling Stroll for the most Q1 eliminations of the year (nine apiece).
- Alex Albon brought up the rear in P20 – this is the second time he has been knocked out in Q1, with the other instance happening in Bahrain.
