F2: Camara secures Monza pole ahead of Invicta team mate Duerksen

Rafael Camara earned pole position in FIA Formula 2 Qualifying at Monza, setting a 1m 31.326s for top spot ahead of Invicta Racing team mate Joshua Duerksen.

The Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy talent secured pole on his provisional attempt as the fight for track position in the final moments of the session left plenty of drivers unable to improve.

It’s an important pole for the Brazilian’s title hopes, too, with current championship leader Nikola Tsolov down in sixth place.

Duerksen was one of the few drivers to find an improvement with his final flying lap, going second quickest and just 0.057s off top spot.

Alexander Dunne finished third for Rodin Motorsport, recovering from an excursion through the gravel and then an aborted lap to complete the top three.

Campos Racing’s Noel Leon had been quick enough earlier in the session to sit provisionally on pole before being demoted by the Invictas, and had to settle for fourth at the chequered flag.

Martinius Stenshorne was another driver to make his last lap work, moving the Rodin driver up to fifth and ahead of Tsolov.

Completing the top 10 were Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak in seventh, Ritomo Miyata, Oliver Goethe and John Bennett in P10.

Second in the championship Gabriele Mini wound up outside of the reverse-grid positions in 11th, 0.033s behind Bennett.
