F2: Browning earns maiden F2 victory with impressive fightback

Briton Luke Browning took his maiden win in F2 following an eventful Monza Feature Race.

MONZA, ITALY - SEPTEMBER 07: Race winner Luke Browning of Great Britain and Hitech TGR (7)

Luke Browning claimed a maiden Formula 2 victory but was made to work for it in a dramatic race in Monza.

Starting the Feature Race from pole position, the Williams Racing Development Driver held onto the advantage at the start but lost out to Oliver Goethe ahead of the pitstop phase.

Various Safety Car interventions followed that helped the Hitech TGR driver regain the lead, but he had to keep AIX Racing’s Joshua Duerksen at arm’s length throughout.

In the end, Browning was able to secure his first win in Formula 2 by over three seconds as Duerksen dropped away in the closing laps and had to fend off Josep María Martí in the fight for the final spots on the podium.

The Paraguayan was able to keep Martí behind him and secured his second podium of the weekend in P2, with the Campos Racing driver earning third.

Title contender Alexander Dunne was an early retirement from the race after he was taken out by Arvid Lindblad, an incident the Campos Racing driver was later penalised for.

Lindblad’s eventful day didn’t end there however, as after sustaining damage in the incident with Dunne, he subsequently collided with Roman Stanek at a Safety Car restart, leaving both himself and the Invicta Racing driver out of the race.

Championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli wound up finishing fourth on home soil after his Sprint Race victory on Saturday, but it is now Browning who is his closest challenger after the Briton’s win lifted him to second in the standings.
