Alonso discharged from hospital to continue recovery from cycling accident

Just four days after a road cycling accident that left Alpine F1 driver Fernando Alonso in hospital, the Spaniard has been discharged to continue his recovery at home, his team have revealed.
The two-time champion – who returns to F1 to compete with Alpine in 2021 – was involved in an accident while road cycling in Switzerland on February 11.
It was later revealed that he underwent surgery for a fracture to his jaw, after which he remained in hospital for observation.
On Monday, Alpine announced that Alonso has been discharged from hospital after the 48-hour observation period.

"He will now have a short period of complete rest before progressively resuming training to undertake preparation for the start of the season," read Alpine's statement.
"As always, thank you for your best wishes for Fernando's recovery," the team added.
The team said on Friday that Alonso was expected to be fully fit ahead of the new season, while the driver himself posted that he was "ok and looking forward to getting 2021 underway" on his Twitter feed.
The rebranded Renault F1 team will launch their 2021 contender – the Alpine A521 – soon, having unveiled an interim livery in January.
