Charles Leclerc made it a double on Friday afternoon, as the championship leader picked up where he left off in FP1 to set the fastest time in the second practice session at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Under the intense Barcelona heat, Leclerc set a time of 1m 19.670s on the soft tyre to lead George Russell, in P2, by 0.117s. It was a solid afternoon of work for Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton setting the third fastest time of the session to finish 0.204s behind Leclerc, with Carlos Sainz in P4.
Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez finished in P5 and P7 respectively, with the Alpine of Fernando Alonso sandwiched between them in P6. It was a tough session for McLaren, with Daniel Ricciardo finishing in P15, while Lando Norris finished last after running wide at Turn 9 and damaging the floor of his car.
FP2: Leclerc heads Mercedes’ Russell and Hamilton in second practice
The session was temporarily under Virtual Safety Car conditions after Valtteri Bottas stopped on the grass at Turn 2, with his Alfa Romeo suffering from engine issues.
